Test of explosion & fracture control of PetroChina pipeline
Project name: Test of explosion and fracture control of PetroChina pipeline.
Brief introduction: On December 30th, 2015, a milestone in pipeline safety testing was achieved in China: the nation’s first full-scale pipeline explosion and fracture control test. Organized by Xinjiang Hami Organization, this groundbreaking test also marked Asia’s first such large-scale pipeline explosion experiment — a critical step in advancing oil and gas infrastructure safety.
The goal of this project was to better understand the behavior of pipelines under catastrophic rupture conditions, with the aim of improving fracture control design, emergency response strategies, and overall pipeline safety standards.
Conducted in an extreme field environment, the test presented significant technical challenges. When the pipeline burst, it generated instantaneous high temperatures, extreme pressures, and intense vibration — all occurring in a low-temperature outdoor environment.
The data acquisition requirements were formidable:
✅ 600+ synchronized acquisition channels
✅ 1-meter long data volume per channel
✅ Real-time, accurate, interference-free signal capture
✅ Long-distance data transmission
✅ Resistance to electromagnetic interference and mechanical shock
Dynatronic’s advanced data acquisition systems were selected as the primary testing platform for this landmark experiment. All instruments used were developed by Dynatronic under the Collaborative Innovation Center’s major infrastructure security program.
By deploying distributed DAQ systems with high channel density, parallel synchronization, and robust anti-interference design, the engineering team captured an unprecedented dataset on pipeline fracture mechanics.
The success of this test provided invaluable insights into the complex dynamics of pipeline failure — helping establish safer, more reliable oil and gas transport systems. It also deepened the industry’s understanding of rupture control, guiding improvements in pipeline design and national safety standards.
Dynatronic is proud to contribute to such essential projects — where better data means safer infrastructure for the future.
