"Yuanwang VI" Main Engine Piping Vibration Test

Dynatronic piping vibration test

Project name: “Yuanwang VI” Main Engine Piping Vibration Test – Reliability Validation with RE-846U

Brief introduction: Marine vessels operate under some of the harshest conditions, where the stability and reliability of engine pipelines are critical to both performance and safety. Excessive vibration in piping systems can lead to fatigue, cracking, or even catastrophic failures, making vibration testing an essential part of ship engineering.

In July 2010, experts from the School of Marine and Architectural Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) collaborated with Dynatronic to conduct a full-scale vibration test on the “Yuanwang VI” main diesel engine oil pipeline. The focus was to assess the effectiveness of recent maintenance reforms and ensure that the modified pipeline system met safety and durability requirements.

To perform the test, engineers deployed Dynatronic’s DE-944 and RE-846U rugged wireless dynamic signal acquisition systems. These systems allowed for multi-point, full-scale vibration monitoring across fixed test points in the high-speed trials of the vessel. By wirelessly transmitting data in real time, the RE-846U enabled engineers to evaluate how the pipeline responded to operational stresses without the limitations of wired systems, which are often impractical in marine environments.

Key aspects of the test included:

  • Multi-point measurement to capture vibration across the full length of the pipeline.

  • High-speed trial monitoring under real operational conditions.

  • Data acquisition in rugged environments, overcoming electromagnetic interference and mechanical stress.

The results demonstrated that the total vibration value of the modified “Yuanwang VI” host pipeline system had significantly decreased compared to prior measurements. This confirmed that the maintenance reforms implemented were effective in reducing vibration levels and improving the overall reliability of the system.

This project validated not only the success of the “Yuanwang VI” pipeline modifications but also the robustness of Dynatronic’s wireless vibration monitoring solutions. It showcased the importance of real-time, multi-point vibration testing in ensuring the long-term safety and operational efficiency of marine vessels.
